University of Richmond

The Department of Psychology offers students the opportunity to study behavior and mental processes—emotion, personality, interpersonal relationships and a range of other phenomena that affect who we are and how we interact with the world. Based in the sciences, psychology professors approach the study of human behavior both scientifically and through the lens of social science. Degree programs include:

In addition, students in other disciplines can choose to minor in psychology. The department also offers a Master of Arts in Psychology.

The University of Richmond’s psychology program is one of the premier programs of its kind in the country. Faculty members have national reputations for teaching and research. They hold editorial positions for leading psychology journals, publish in the most highly acclaimed journals in psychology and neuroscience, receive prestigious research grants and have won Outstanding Faculty Awards from the Virginia State Council of Higher Education. Most important, they are dedicated to undergraduates—both in the classroom and the laboratory.

The psychology curriculum is designed to fit the needs of the individual student and his or her career goals.  Students may choose to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science based on their aptitude in the sciences and their desire to study psychology at the graduate level.  Students are best prepared for a career or post-graduate study when they participate in experiential learning opportunities, either through conducting research under a faculty member, completing an internship or choosing to study abroad.
